Chris and Dad at the US Amateur @ Cherry Hills CC

The semi-final pairings had tee times of 8 and 8.30a, and we arrived a little late to miss them tee off #1.  Justin Thomas (KY, University of Alabama) is the 5th ranked amateur golfer in the world and we caught up w/ his pairing on the 4th tee (I believe).  Justin took his ball out of play before teeing off and tossed it toward Chris. Chris picked it up and above, Justin is signing the ball; below, is a picture of Justin and Chris after Justin's round.

Justin fell short, getting closed 3&2, in spite of playing solidly and after a great late run w/ momentum building at 13/14.  He was extremely gracious with his time post-round.  Thanks again, Justin.  A plug for Justin and the Tide:

Here, Chris and I are sitting and relaxing in the shade for a few minutes.  We found plenty of great spots to take time and enjoy the surroundings.  I took solace in that this is how I spent my time in the USGA-grade rough.

Here's Chris enjoying his Mor strolling down the 2nd fairway.  He clearly enjoyed Mor (a sparkling drink loaded w/ antioxidants), and we were able to locate most of the temporary facilities throughout the course...just in case.

The golfers' skills were amazing (as was their generosity), the members, staff and volunteers we encountered were friendly and gracious, as expected, and we're hopefully going to catch part of tomorrow's final match.

Thanks to Chris, who humored his old man for a few hours and in addition to all of the fanfare, was able to get a broken red tee, an acorn, and a pin for baby sister, Grace - made out like a bandit.
